New penalties for late payment of PAYE

HM Revenue & Customs is introducing a new single penalty regime for the late payment of direct taxes which includes PAYE/NIC, Construction Industry Scheme payments, Inheritance Tax and Stamp Duty Land Taxes.  The new regime will not apply to VAT.

From May 2010, the new penalties will apply to all late payments of PAYE tax and NI, Class 1a NI liabilities, CIS deductions made by contactors and student loan deductions.  The penalty will apply to each late month rather than on the whole balance left showing as due on the P35 at the end of the year.

For further details on these penalties please click on the following link or contact your client manager for advice on how to keep on top of your payments

Customer satisfaction surveys

As many of you will know, each month at A4G one of our team who is not involved in client work, Tara Denman, undertakes a customer satisfaction survey on 5% of our clients. We appreciate the feedback given so far and thank those that have already contributed for their time.

The scores we have received help us identify which aspects of our business are performing well and which need improving. Feedback on how we can improve is used not just for that client but for the rest of our client base as well. We are not perfect (and never will be of course) but we do strive to make those continuous 1% improvements that keep us ahead of our competitors.

Having surveyed all the clients who we acted for 20 months ago, the process now begins again. If you do get a call from Tara, I hope you can find the time to answer just a couple of questions and please tell us your honest feelings. To paraphrase Dr Crane from the hit comedy series, Frasier: “We’re listening”.

Problems with incorrect PAYE codes

HM Revenue and Customs have recently started to issue the PAYE codes for 2010/ 2011. This year they are using a new computer system which has caused many to receive the wrong tax code.

When you receive a tax coding notice please check if the code is correct and if you recognise a mistake please notify HM Revenue and Customs straight away. If your codings are incorrect you may well be paying too much tax during the next year.

Should you have any queries about this matter, please contact our payroll specialist Nigel Newman at nigel@a4gsolutions.co.uk.
