Change in legislation affecting VAT invoices

There has been a recent change in legislation that came into effect from 1 October 2007 that affects VAT invoices as follows:

  • VAT invoices should be numbered sequentially
  • Invoices that fall under the second hand margin scheme or tour operators margin scheme should be annotated to state that the supply is subject to the relevant scheme.  For example ‘This supply is subject to the second hand margin scheme’
  • Cross border invoices must be annotated to refer to the reason for any VAT exemption.
    • If you are invoicing an EC VAT registered customer for goods which would be exempt in the UK, you should include the narrative ‘This supply is exempt from VAT
    • If you are invoicing an EC VAT registered customer for goods which would be taxable in the UK, you should include the narrative ‘This supply is an intra-community supply

If you would like to know more about the change in legislation please contact janice@a4gsolutions.co.uk or alternatively contact your client manager

Turning leads into sales

Generating sales leads is extremely important to all businesses, not just new businesses who are looking at growth. If a business does not follow up on new leads, then it faces a risk that it will start to contract in size losing turnover and ultimately profits.

However, business owners need to be sure that they are using their time most effectively on the sales function, working on "hot" leads and not chasing their tails on prospects that are unlikely to result in eventual sales.

If you find that you are continuingly chasing your tail and not having as much success as you would like, please email anna@a4gsolutions.co.uk to arrange for a discussion with our Business Development experts.

Quote of the week

“Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.”
