It has been recently announced by Alistair Darling in light of the Arctic Systems case, that “unfair” tax advantages resulting from “income-shifting”, where dividends or partnership profits are redirected to a family member with a lower tax rate, would possibly be removed in April 2008.

As a result, thousands of owner-managed businesses could be affected by the new legislation although the full extent of the changes is yet to be publicised.
