In the light of the doom and gloom stories of recession in the forthcoming twelve months, now is an appropriate time to look at your business to see if you have the ability to either save tax or generally make your business less susceptible to any market downturn that may happen.

The deadline for submission of the tax return to HMRC is 31st January 2008.

If not with HMRC by this date, an initial £100 fine will be imposed and interest will be charged on any outstanding liabilities.  The penalties increase if the delay in submission continues.  

Late submission may also increase the risk of HMRC flagging up your record for an enquiry and if your business is registered for gross payments under CIS this may also be at risk, so it is important to submit forms on time wherever possible.
