The problem with dividends

As you may already be aware, HM Revenue and Customs are becoming increasingly vigilant with regards to possible areas of tax avoidance.

Following the recent introduction of new International Accounting Standards, they have begun to review more closely the owner-managed limited companies with a view to cracking down upon and potentially disallowing dividends and increasing both the risk of enquiry and subsequent tax liabilities.

As a result of this, we will be running a morning seminar on Thursday 17th September 2009 starting at 8am, where we will be running through:

  • the risks associated with the updated legislation
  • the paperwork which is more important to maintain than ever before,
  • the ways in which the risks of enquiries against you being successful can be kept to a minimum
  • how dividends can still be used as a successful tax planning tool

All seminars will take place in our comfortable boardroom at our Kings Lodge office near Brands Hatch, arriving at 7.45 for an 8am start with tea / coffee and breakfast rolls provided and an aim to finish by 9am. If you would like to attend or require any further information on our seminars please email Jenny at jenny@a4gsolutions.co.uk. We regularly update our website with the latest seminar information which can be found at www.a4gsolutions.co.uk/weekly-seminars

Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme

NatWest and RBS revealed last week that lending through the Government backed Enterprise Finance Guarantee (EFG) Scheme reached £200m, with many Kent SMEs amongst those receiving vital financial support in difficult market conditions. The EFG scheme was introduced specifically to help viable businesses access finance when they had no more security to offer and works by the government acting as a guarantor for 75% of the amounts borrowed. A more detailed version of this article is available on our website.
